The Spam Problem:

 

Spam is an unpleasant fact of life for all companies that use email extensively. Leaving end users to struggle with endless unsolicited mails is unproductive and demoralising, but installing a simple filter is no longer enough.

 

Techniques to generate new forms of spam are highly advanced and proliferate rapidly. In addition, phishing emails, which contain no actual malicious software, are typically designed to lure email users into giving their personal data to fake banking web sites or their PC becoming infected simply by browsing a compromised website. By incorporating a range of detection mechanisms including, Cloudmark spam detection technology, MailDefender delivers industry leading performance. It is able to block spam with an exceptional degree of accuracy: over 98% of spam and phishing attacks with near zero false positives.

 

Battling the Virus Problem:

 

Running anti-virus software in-house, has a high degree of latency in the level of protection provided. Your AV vendor has to identify a new threat, produce an update and make it available so you can download and apply it. Anti-Spam

Anti-Virus

 

MailDefender uses multiple methods to identify virus emails. The first method is Cloudmark which analyses email payloads for suspicious signs that might indicate that an email is carrying a new form of virus.

 

On passing this test, email is then passed across to the Sophos anti-virus engine to be analysed for the presence of known viruses.

 

The Sophos anti-virus engine checks for the latest updates from Sophos every 5 minutes, meaning that it is always up-to-date. In the same way, the email is then passed to the Clam anti-virus engine and intY heuristic scanner for further analysis.
